How about a trip to Syria / Iraq

Syria / Iraq

SummaryA Brief Summary

Both Syria and Iraq are countries with so much to offer the outside world. Fabulous food, incredibly friendly and hospitable lcoals, magnificent scenery and eons of history and historical monuments… well, those that have survived the last few years ravaged by war anyway. It is unlikely this part of the middle east will be a destination-of-choice for anyone in the coming few years, given the level of instability and terrorism activity, but hopefully soon this will change and the outside world will once again be able to experience all that this wonderful part of the world has to offer.

WeatherAbout the Weather

Hot summers and mild winters are the norm across this stretch of the middle east. The mountains across Syria can have extensive snowfalls in winter with severe blizzards at times, but the majority of the region is bright if not sunny and mild, although often very warm towards central and southern Iraq. Spring and Autumn are very warm or hot and mostly dry and sunny, while summers are, frankly, best avoided. Temperatures often exceed 35°c and frequently 40°c in Iraq, with 47-48°c not uncommon in July or August. Summer nights can be insanely warm, seldom dropping below 30°c in Iraq, while Syria is slightly cooler at night. Spring and autumn days vary between 25° and 35°c with nights perhaps a little chilly in Spring, but often above 20°c for most of Autumn.
