How about a trip to Somalia

Somalia

SummaryA Brief Summary

It is exceptionally rare for a place’s name to be synonymous with only things in life we collectively steer well, well clear of, but sadly Somalia is such a place. When mentioned, its name conjures images of piracy or war and not a lot else. It has been in a state of considerable flux ever since independence in 1960 and shows no realistic sign of improving soon. But, were it to do so, with the longest coastline in Africa, generally fantastic weather year-round (albeit a little hot for some), it would surely rank among the must-see places for the adventurous among you, looking for that new place on the world scene to explore and investigate.

WeatherAbout the Weather

Unsurprisingly, given the country’s external perception of being a hot and dry landscape, most of Somalia has a hot, dry, desert climate with little reliable rainfall, high temperatures year round and abundant sunshine. The exceptions to this are the extreme south and southeast of the country. Here the climate is a little wetter, with a rainy season mid-year, when from late May to late August cities such as Mogadishu see rain every 2-3 days and high humidity. The rest of the year here is largely dry, but seldom exceptionally hot, rarely rising much above 32°c with constant sea breezes and heat tempered by the Indian Ocean, from which the prevailing winds come. Nights are warm all year, averaging 24°c. Sunshine rarely drops below 8 hours a day in any month, peaking at well over 9 hours a day in March. The north and inland areas of the country sees higher temperatures, far less rainfall and even more sunshine. Droughts across the country are common.
