Almost 2/3rds of Stockholm’s annual sunshine come in the months May to August, with June being by far the sunniest month of the year. Part of this comes from the relatively settled conditions seen across the Baltic region during this time of year, but also from the northerly latitude and long summer days across eastern Sweden. Summers here are short, but warm, averaging 22°c from June to August, with 30°c reached several times a year during warmer spells. Nights average 14°c in summer and rain is seen every 3 days on average in the form of heavy showers. Autumn is mild and bright to begin with, but quickly cools and becomes much more overcast, with increased rain and snow by November. Winters are cold, cloudy and snowy, with little sunshine and temperatures above 5°c unusual from December until early March. Spring starts cold and cloudy, but is the driest season and quickly becomes sunnier, although takes until May to warm to 16°c.
