How about a trip to Zimbabwe
A Brief Summary
In recent years, Zimbabwe has conjured images of a despot dictator handing out his own form of brutal justice to anyone who frankly isn’t / wasn’t in complete agreement with his ways of thinking, and funnily enough, this caused people to steer clear of the country in which some vile atrocities were taking place. Now, we’re not here to kid you this is a country smelling entirely of roses now he’s passed away, but things are considerably brighter than they were even only a handful of years ago, and in African terms, that is rapid progress and Zimbabweans should be praised for this.
The country is home to a large number of National Parks and while perhaps not as impressive as some of those in Kenya or South Africa in terms of sheer scale, they’re home to a huge number of animals you could well miss on your trips on more prestigious safaris, including elephants, antelope, giraffe, hippo etc.
Unlike many countries in central southern Africa, when the cities are merely entry and exit points, Zimbabwe’s capital is a little different. While we wouldn’t suggest spending a week here, the friendliness of the locals and their desire to draw in tourism and trade has created a really quite charming city, with a cosmopolitan feel and somewhere you could very easy find yourself enjoying for a weekend before / after heading out in your jeeps with your crazy big lenses hoping to get that National Geographic photo of a Hippo swallowing a giraffe (or something!)
