How about a trip to Vietnam Southern Hills

Vietnam Southern Hills Jun

SummaryA Brief Summary

Vietnam is a hot, humid and muggy country and sometimes getting away from the heat is tricky, but Da Lat is a town that the Vietnamese and French before them, found a way to do just that. Set in the southern hills of Vietnam this former hill station is a breath of fresh air, metaphorically and literally. While a busy town, it is nothing compared to the bedlam of Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi and the temperate climate here will make you feel like you’re back home on a pleasantly warm day, rather than gasping for air in the coastal heat (ok, slight exaggeration, but you get the point). With a rustic, colonial feel about the architecture owing to the masses of buildings built by the French, it doesn’t look or feel Vietnamese at all, but instead is a genuinely brilliant place in which to base yourself if you want to explore the hills of Vietnam by bike, or on foot, as many people do in increasing numbers.
The town itself isn’t vast, but there’s a surprising amount to see and do, both natural in the shape of the mountains and lakes nearby, but also manmade, from the disused train station (yes, a train station!), or the Crazy House (yes… it’s a house, but trust us, like none you have ever seen before!!). Perhaps come midweek in between excursions to other parts of this epic country as the weekends in summer especially here can get very, very busy, and you’ll have yourself a really rather peaceful time in beautiful surroundings and quite probably start thinking why more places on earth aren’t like this!

WeatherAbout the Weather

At almost a mile up, inland areas of southern Vietnam see consistently warm to hot weather all year, with days averaging 24°c in each month, but which can reach 28-30°c and nights between 12 and 16°c. Extreme heat or cold here is almost unknown. All months see rain, but Dec to Feb is the driest and sunniest time of year, with 7-8 hours sunshine a day and only 2 or 3 days rain a month. Apr to Nov is the rainy season and sees frequent, heavy, thundery downpours, which peak in Sep and Oct accompanied by exceptionally high humidity and little wind.
