How about a trip to United States South California

United States South California Jun

SummaryA Brief Summary

Southern California is a place which probably doesn’t need a great deal of explanation, but that would be rather lazy, so we’ll try, somehow, to sum up this tourist mecca for you. Let’s start with LA as that’s almost where you’re certain to arrive if flying into the region. LA is vast. If you think you can get around LA on public transport, you can, but you’d probably prefer to by car, just like every single other person! Traffic here can be hell, so plan your journeys to avoid a frustrating time. The beaches are are the biggest draw and its so easy to see why. They are many in number, clean, calm, wide, sandy, and the sunsets are legendary. They can have huge palatial homes right next door, muscular men and women flexing and lifting, roller bladers breezing effortlessly past, surfers catching the breakers, students amassing for evenings in the sun, families visiting the attractions and some people who just want to chill out!
Then you have places like Hollywood and Beverley Hills and the glut of celebs who call these places home and “work”. Griffith Park is a vast open green space with wonderous views of the city (if not covered in smog), there’s an enormous variety of elite sports to watch, world-class music venues, theatres, cinemas, superb dining and of course, Disneyland!
Just south of LA, you have San Diego, a much quieter, more laid back city with the majority of its focal point being on the coast and the harbour area. It is also home to one of the world’s largest and highly prized zoos, an absolute must visit, along with its aquarium. This isn’t a city for a long stay, but a long weekend here in a place with one of the world’s best climates is a long weekend well spent!
From here, either head inland to Palm Springs, a desert / golf / shopping haven before continuing on through Joshua Tree National Park to the Grand Canyon, one of nature’s most extraordinary sights. Or head north past Santa Barbara, technically not part of LA, although very much part of LA.. stopping off at Hearst Castle before meandering your way up through Big Sur!
If you’re not exhausted yet from all the driving (driving is THE only way to see this state in all its glory and preferably in a drop-top!), then head inland once more, to the breath taking Sequoia National Park and the worlds largest trees (yes big trees are better than you can ever imagine!) and onto Death Valley. There isn’t much to see / do in DV, but it’s one of those places that, especially if you’re ultimate destination is the madness of Las Vegas, you really ought to “feel” and on a hot summers day, it’ll be like nothing else you’ve ever felt before! Just take a LOT of water and make sure your aircon is working, well!!
The other aspect Southern and central California has in abundance are ski resorts, some of the very biggest and best on earth! While snowfall quantities vary enormously, if you get a good dump of the white stuff, Heavenly, Squaw, Mammoth, Bear and a number of others will see you ride some superb runs, in probable glorious sunshine, followed by a well-earned party in the evening, only to repeat the process the following day!

WeatherAbout the Weather

Famed for its sunshine, palm-fringed beaches and seemingly idyllic weather, Los Angeles along with most of southern California, for the most part, meet these criteria. A few exceptions to this perception do exist however. While warm, dry and sunny weather, which LA has in abundance, are enjoyable, drought, forest fires and water shortages aren’t, and LA is becoming increasingly susceptible to these. 95% of LA’s rainfall comes between October and April, often in short, sharp showers, with the mountains surrounding the city receiving vast quantities of snow from these same weather systems. If these rains fail, which they do from time to time, water shortages in the city escalate rapidly during the almost rainless summers. Winter temperatures average 20°c, similar to those in the Canaries during winter and are mostly sunny, if showery, Spring is a little warmer and sunnier, but also a little drier and by May rain is rare and sunshine abundant. May and June can suffer from early morning fog in coastal areas, seen across the length of California, but this burns off by midday leaving warm sunny days. June to September is dry and very sunny with temperatures rising throughout the period, leading to late August and early September being the warmest time of year, as well as seeing the warmest waters off the coast. Temperatures during this time average 28°c, but coastal areas are often 5-10°c cooler than inland areas which frequently see highs of 35°c. October to December is increasingly cooler and cloudier, although both changes are gradual. Interior desert regions have similar climatic conditions, but with more extreme temperatures, with roasting hot summers and cooler winters.
