How about a trip to United States Rockies
A Brief Summary
We all know the Rockies are in the western US… but just exactly where abouts and what’s included in “The Rockies”. Well, this isn’t always an exact science, but from a States perspective, they’re largely defined as Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. Each of these States offers something a little different, but we simply don’t have the space to go into each in detail, so to summarise, from north to south…
Idaho: A rugged State which looks akin to the surface of the moon in places, and yet an idyllic summer lakeside retreat in others. Forests and large rivers dominate much of the north of the State, while further south a more barren landscape is prevalent, but not without its beauty, chiefly in the form of the dozens of snow-capped mountains rising into often deep blue skies and dropping into deep canyons and fast-flowing white-water rivers. As with most States in the Rockies, the cities leave a little to be desired, but the outdoors leaves absolutely nothing to be desired whatsoever!
Montana: A vast, open, monster of a state. With big skies, big mountains (Glacier National Park is a perfect example of this!), huge open prairies to the east and… well not a lot else! Huge farmsteads and agricultural lands spread for miles on the flat eastern regions, while the west sees huge mountains and small towns. If you want to get away from the world, there are few places in N. America as accessible and yet remote as Montana!
Wyoming: Renowned above all else for one thing: Yellowstone National Park. One of, if not the, worlds greatest and most diverse natural playgrounds and wonders. By no means the only national park in this sparsely populated but staggeringly pretty state, this is THE NP people come to see! Almost as big as the Bahamas or Puerto Rico, if you love nature, this has to be one of the places on earth you need to visit! Wildlife here is staggering, with backdrops to drain a camera battery in minutes! Grand Teton is probably the other NP you really need to visit while you’re here too if for some reason Yellowstone wasn’t enough!
Utah: A truly blessed state when it comes to natural beauty, with Bryce, Glen Canyon, Zion and Canyonlands among the many staggering national parks here. Few states, except Colorado, really embrace the outdoor Rockies like Utah and there’s very, very good reason, with just about every activity you can think of here, from the mundane walking and cycling, to bungee jumping, water skiing and extreme climbing.
Colorado: Often regarded by American’s as having the most beautiful scenery in the country, Colorado is genuinely breath taking to behold and where the Rockies come alive perhaps more than anywhere else. It is also home to the largest city in the Rockies, Denver, a vibrant and true cowboy city at its heart, but with a very modern, technologically growing and increasingly art feel.
Aside from the above, the primary reason people come to the Rockies is for skiing! The snow here is largely hailed as the best in the world, with huge resorts, great infrastructure and relatively easy access. All strangely in a region with a dense and rich history dating back perhaps further than almost anywhere else in the country!

About the Weather
A climate of real extremes.. Not just from month to month, but frequently from day to day, especially in spring and Autumn. Summers in this mountainous region are sunny and hot, with 30°c being seen on most days and more than 10 hours sunshine from late May to early Sep. Rainfall in summer comes in the way of heavy showers, often thundery in nature, but ones that soon pass. Temperatures above 40°c do occur, although rarely and nights remain relatively cool. Autumns start as Springs end, warm and sunny by day but with cold nights and conditions that vary from mild and sunny to cold and snowy in very short spaces of time. Spring in particular can see wild changes in weather from bitter cold and heavy snow one day to warm, sunny weather the next, and vice versa. Winters are generally cold, sometimes very cold, however they also have 6-7 hours of sunshine a day still with almost all precipitation being snow, often quite heavy snow. Temperatures in mid-Spring and Autumn are around 13-16°c by day
