How about a trip to United States Northern Lakes

Winters and summers in places like Florida don’t really change a great deal. Here they change immeasurably! Winters are bitter and doing things outside simply isn’t an option, while summers are gloriously warm and doing things outside is almost mandated! The vast Lakes in this region dictate much of the region’s appeal. In winter they’re frigid bodies of thronging ice and choppy waters you wouldn’t dare enter. In the heat of summer, you’ll be gagging to get into the cooling waters and join the thousands of others doing likewise. The big cities here were founded on industry, transport, music and retail and to this day resemble their pasts, although not always favourably.
Chicago is the jewel in the crown and one of the best shopping cities on earth. A world-famous skyline, this is a city on the shores of Lake Michigan where you really get a feel for the vibe of the city at times like St Patricks Day and Blues Fest. They know how to party here! They also know how to unwind, and play sport, and shop, and eat and reminisce! But our advice is, come from April to Oct unless you have a good reason for doing otherwise to really enjoy this city.
Detroit is a very dissimilar city. In a past life it was an absolute driving force, literally, behind the financial success of the US, with the car industry and Motown absolutely enormous here. Cheaper Japanese cars and no more Motown however has left a monumental hole in this city that hasn’t been filled in decades. Efforts are taking place to redeem this once epic city, but it’ll take a long, long time. But it’s the sort of place you’d probably like to see to experience a once great “has been”.
Cities like Indianapolis, Columbus and Cincinnati are much more industrialised in their origins, but today, while this is still evident in the architecture and physical make-up of the city, they are fast gentrifying in an effort to keep apace with the much more glamorous near-neighbours such as New York, Chicago and Washington DC. This is the area of the country where bible meets industry and where nature meets man-made. And all things considered, it’s doing rather well from what we can tell. Perhaps not worth a trip in its own right, but these cities warrant your time if you have it for a day or two while you’re on your way to somewhere else in this fascinating region
