How about a trip to United States Hawaii
A Brief Summary
Jurassic Park was a fabulous film, set in an epic location. Dog the Bounty Hunter was a dire TV programme, set in an epic location. Pearl Harbour was a horrific event, taking part in an epic location. All of these and many, many more all had one thing in common. They were set in the epic, Hawaii!
If you’re thinking Hawaii is little more than a series of islands in the middle of nowhere that attracts 20-somethings with long hair and surfboards and little else, you’d be very much mistaken. While it does appeal to the surfing brigade more than perhaps anywhere else on earth, Hawaii offers so much more.
Technically Polynesian despite being the US’s only island state, Hawaii is a geographical marvel. Anchored in the north central Pacific these islands ark round from the Southeast to the Northwest in alignment, getting smaller and more varied as they go. The Big Island, in the South eastern corner of the chain is by far the largest and home to nature in its rawest form. Volcanos! One of the worlds most active volcanos, Kilauea, is located here along with huge ascending mountains cloaked in dried, brown lava fields. To the Northeast coast you’ll find verdant rainforests, as you will on every large Hawaiian island and to the Southwest, well, not a lot! This is exploration territory and a real back to nature place.
Next are Maui, Lanai and Molokai, with Maui by far the most popular and with the most to do of these three. Everything you can do here is outdoorsy and likely to involve working up a sweat, be it on a saddle, on your feet, in a kayak, hitting a golf ball on some truly staggering courses, swimming beneath the waves or surfing atop them. This is an adrenaline-seekers true paradise!
Oahu comes next and is the most populated of all the islands, with nearly 90% of Hawaii’s total residents living here, chiefly around its capital Honolulu. Both Honolulu and the Waikiki district in particular are very busy and truly “big-city-like”, bringing the pros and cons of such a status. This also feels very American unlike most of Hawaii. This island is famous for its surf scene, it’s history (Pearl Harbour notably), it’s stunning scenery and it’s nightlife. Despite the Americanness of it, it’s still well worth venturing round before perhaps finding a quiet cove to relax on one of the many glorious beaches.
Finally, we have Kauai. The Green Isle and called so for a good reason, it is lush here, both physically and metaphorically. Many celebs have homes on the island to truly get away from the crowds of Oahu and to no doubt get a chance to experience the awesome geography here, including Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali coast.. of Jurassic Park fame!
So, should you come to Hawaii. Yes. Yes you should… but, it is a long old way, so as long as you’re prepared for the flight(s), it really is like no other place on earth!

About the Weather
At no point across the vast majority of the island chain of Hawaii, do temperatures drop below 10°c and below 15°c is unusual, owing to the tropical location of the islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean, only at elevation do temperatures decline a little. At sea level they range from 24-32°c by day and 18-24°c at night. Winds are generally strong from the northeast, cooling the heat a little, but also meaning the northeast coasts are much wetter than the protected southwest coasts, which see surprisingly little rain for a tropical location. Sunshine levels range from 7 hours a day in winter to 10 hours a day in summer. Apr to May is the hottest, sunniest and driest time of year and sees very little rain, while Oct to Mar can see showers or longer spells of rain, but seldom for more than a day or two. Pacific hurricanes can hit the islands, but a direct impact is rare, although rough seas and stormy winds do occur when they’re within 500 miles
