How about a trip to Tonga
A Brief Summary
Tonga isn’t what you’d call big or easy to get to… so why would you bother? Well, for starters, the locals here are hugely friendly and will welcome you with large open arms (they’re a big set of islanders, in both stature and warmth). The geography here is both a positive and negative. On the positive side of things, it makes for stunning scenery in virtually every direction with gloriously deserted beaches, glistening south Pacific seas, volcanic craters to explore and the occasional lofty, forest-covered peak. On the downside, the sheer vastness of the expanse of water covered by the islands does make for very challenging exploration, let alone getting here in the first place. It does also mean coming here is not cheap, with almost everything imported (apart from fish… they have a lot of fantastically fresh and tasty fish here!)
Most tourists to Tonga will find themselves spending much of the time on a deserted beach or 2, with random trips around the islands on a scooter or moped, or taking a trip out onto the ocean for a bit of diving, snorkelling or whale watching. Either way, getting here requires genuine perseverance, but if you’ve got the time and the money and want somewhere totally different, the sheer friendliness of the welcome and hospitality you get here will be like no other place on earth
