How about a trip to Switzerland
A Brief Summary
When you think of jagged snow-capped peaks, glistening waterfalls, glassy lakes, verdant fields of meadow flowers and scenic rivers, there are few, if any, countries on earth that embody that better than Switzerland. While not true of the whole country, the majority is heavily mountainous, with only the far southwest having flatter, more easily navigable land.
As a result, winter sports here are huge and the ski resorts are some of the very best, and biggest, on earth.
Aside from geography, where Switzerland excels beyond belief, it is a county synonymous with quality. They make the finest time-pieces of earth, their chocolate is incredible, their banking is based on a reputation of unrivalled anonymity and secrecy, their public transport is just about the only nation’s on earth to rival the punctuality of the Japanese and their neutrality and abstinence from conflict, legendary.
As a result, life here is pricey and a cheap holiday to Switzerland isn’t really an option, but that would be missing the point. You don’t come here to scrimp and save, you come here for the finer things in life. Geneva is a global city on a small-scale and Switzerland’s arty and cultural capital. Zurich, it’s largest city, a banking mecca but with a thriving nightlife and beautiful lakeside setting. Lausanne is all about the lake, especially in summer, and home to Switzerland’s small but growing wine region. For a more medieval feel, head to Basel or it’s “capital” Bern (we say Capital as it might technically be, but rarely feels anything more than a small and somewhat unimportant town compared to many others).
Switzerland isn’t a natural country to visit for a city break, so perhaps try several cities in one, one thing is for certain, you definitely won’t be complaining it was too shabby!

About the Weather
Cold, damp, overcast and sometimes snowy winters typifies the weather you’re likely to see in most of Switzerland from Nov to early Mar. Apr and May warm up considerably, but aren’t a great deal sunnier than early Spring until the end of May when temperatures average 19°c compared with 2-8°c by day in winter. Summer is warm and infrequently hot and quite sunny, but with frequent, heavy showers which are often thundery. Temperatures average 24°c from Jun to Aug with 7-8 hours sunshine a day. Sep is warm and bright, but showery, however Oct is markedly colder and more overcast while Nov sees the first snows of the winter.
