How about a trip to St. Kitts and Nevis

St. Kitts and Nevis Jan

SummaryA Brief Summary

As the name might suggest, St Kitts and Nevis are a pair of islands. Caribbean islands at that. If you’re now picturing soft white sands, swaying palms, colourful beachside bars and eateries, little towns with low-rise, multi-hued facades and an interior comprising several lofty, forested peaks… then you’ve done a remarkable job of picturing both of these islands.
St Kitts is the larger of the two, and only a good swim from it’s smaller sibling, Nevis. (When we say “good swim”, we’re talking a mile or so of warm, but choppy waters, not just a little paddle!).
The capital is the town of Basseterre, is your typical, small island capital, with all the essentials you’d need from a short stay to a week here, with nice restaurants serving hearty local fare, nik-nak shops galore, a few nice bars and quirky little craft shops. It’s no wonder, given the moderate offerings here, that St Kitts and Nevis are less popular with fortnight holidays and increasingly more popular with day-visitors disembarking from the gigantic cruise ships plying their trade in the winter and spring months. That being said, there are some lovely hotels here with fine wining and dining and all manner of recreational activities on offer, so for a quiet and relaxing stay in the Caribbean, it’s a very pleasant place indeed

WeatherAbout the Weather

Hot and humid year-round with a drier and sunnier climate than more southerly Caribbean islands such as Martinique, St. Lucia and St. Vincent. The drier season from Jan – Jun is longer, drier and sunnier than further south in the Caribbean chain and the wet season sees less rainfall on average. Hurricanes rarely directly impact these islands, but in 2017 a series of devastating storms caused extensive and widespread damage, from which communities recovered slowly over a number of years. Rainfall is at its most intense, between the sunshine, from Jul – Nov. Temperatures seldom rise above 32°c or below 20°c.
