How about a trip to Spain Northeast

Spain Northeast Jan

SummaryA Brief Summary

By far the most recognisable city in Spain’s northeast is that of Barcelona, a city that needs almost no introduction… but we probably should say something! It’s great. Just go. It’s one of those places that you genuinely should spend a weekend in, just soaking up the sun, the atmosphere, the food, taking in the sights, from Las Ramblas, to La Sagrada Familia, to Gaudi’s Parc Güell, Plaça’s de Catalunya and Reial and of course the towns beaches and those of nearby Sitges. If you’re into football you have to visit the Camp Nou, one of footballs very finest stadiums, and even if you’re not, it’s an awe-inspiring place to see. If you’re there when a match is taking place, especially against Real Madrid or city neighbours Espanol, and you can get tickets, consider yourself ridiculously lucky!
Away from Barca, the rest of the Catalonia region has much to offer. From the charming old city of Girona, hugely popular with cyclists, Tarragona and it’s wonderful beaches and old-world, hilly and laid back Lleida.
If you’re a sports partaker, there is ready access to the Pyrenees of both France, Spain and Andorra within a relatively short drive during the winter months for brilliant skiing, and for the rest of the year, any sport you care to mention takes place in what is almost certainly Spain’s fittest and most athletic region.

WeatherAbout the Weather

Barcelona’s climate, and that of northeast Spain, is akin to the majority of other European Mediterranean climates, with the exception of being more humid than most and without a truly dry summer. Summers are hot and mostly sunny, but not without heavy showers from time to time, while temperatures of 30°c are common, excessive heat in this region of Spain is unusual. Winters are conversely relatively dry for the region, with less than 50mm of rain in each month, equivalent to the UK in a drier than average summer. Winter days average 15°c and nights just below 10°c. Snow can fall in the city during winter, but seldom lasts long. Spring and Autumn are warm, with spring the sunnier of the two transition seasons. Sunshine amounts in winter average less than 5 hours a day, rising through spring at 7 hours a day, to the middle of summer at 10 hours a day.
