This is South Africa’s Garden Route region, and as soon as you begin your trip down here, you’ll see why. It is a mix of laid back, old-world South Africa and stunning verdant scenery, all seamlessly and effortlessly working in harmony to give you a truly wonderful experience of the southernmost shores of the African continent.
Large towns such as Port Elizabeth (now called Gqeberha) give you a charming and lively, but distinctly Mediterranean feel, with it’s miles of wonderful beaches, access to diving, surfing, sandboarding, cycling, riding and hiking, great nightlife and a coffee scene that thrives on the reputation for having some of the best in the world! Smaller towns such as East London, Grahamstown and Graaff-Reinet, with it’s beautiful architecture will be great little stop offs on your journey. Don’t forget to pick up (and sample, of course) many of the wines from the vineyards scattered across this outstanding landscape as you meander from place to place.
