How about a trip to South Africa Northeast Highlands
A Brief Summary
THIS is the South Africa most people think of. Occupying what is essentially 3 States; Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga, if you’re after the “big 5” and arguably the best game drives / safaris on earth (Kenya / Tanzania might have something to say about this, mind), then this is where you want to be! Johannesburg (Joburg for short) is the destination for most international flights into South Africa and only a few hours drive from the likes of Kruger National Park, a world-famous nature reserve containing a huge number and variety of the biggest animals on earth, and natural wonders such as Blyde River Canyon, the worlds 3rd largest canyon and, in places, on a par with the Grand Canyon in the US.
Away from the natural wonders which are nigh-on impossible to surpass anywhere on earth, you have Joburg itself as the largest city in South Africa and one which will cater to your every need for basing yourself in amongst natures awe-inspiring wonders. It also contains some smaller, but really quite decent wildlife parks within an hour of the city centre. Joburg itself however isn’t a real tourist gem, and while it has some great restaurants and historical tours, it’s probably a day or two at most to see the majority of these before heading out and about. The chances are however, if you’re in this part of the world, you’re not here for fine-dining or a city break, you’re here for the wildlife… and so you should be!!
