How about a trip to Senegal North

Senegal North Jan

SummaryA Brief Summary

There are 3 distinct regions of Senegal: A narrow coastal band, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, the desert north, and the more shrub-adorned south. Whichever part of the country you’re in, with the exception of the extreme west in and around the capital Dakar, it is a sparsely populated and poor country, largely dominated by its proximity to the vast Saharan Desert, with only the far south east of the country noticably verdant. As with it’s enshrouded neighbour, Gambia, much of Senegal is given over to National Park land. This isn’t a country blessed with a large number of reasons for tourists to visit en-masse, or for extended durations, but if you happen to be in western Africa, particularly The Gambia, and you fancy seeing a slightly different side of the continent, in a country which is about as politically secure as it’s possible to get in Africa, then do pop over to Senegal. The people will welcome you with open arms and probably provide more hospitality than you’d ever expect.

WeatherAbout the Weather

Northern coastal Senegal has a hot, mostly dry, sunny climate throughout the year, with only Aug and Sep likely to see rain and a slight drop in sunshine levels. For the rest of the year 8-9 hours sunshine a day is seen and temperatures average over 30°c by day and drop to 15-20°c at night. Temperatures above 40°c are common, particularly in the first half of the year. During the rainier months, extreme heat is rare, but humidity is higher and sunshine levels a little lower at 7 hours per day
