How about a trip to Portugal North
A Brief Summary
While no Lisbon, Portugal’s second city, Porto, is a lovely place and a real up-and-comer in terms of overseas visitor numbers. With a lovely climate (except perhaps mid-winter), the food here is some of the best in Portugal, and given its proximity to the likes of the Alto Douro wine region, the vino is the very best. Of course, port itself is named after Porto and you’d be remiss not to sample some while you’re here… just how much is up to you though!
Away from Porto, towns like Amarante and Guimarães are well worth a visit for a day. Geographically this is Portugal’s most undulating region and as such is best explored on foot, or by bike. Driving through this area is of course an option, but you don’t fully appreciate it quite as much at 50mph as you at 5!

About the Weather
Northern coastal Portugal has, for the most part, a warm and bright climate with heavy showers and high humidity. Summers see hot, or occasionally very hot weather and plentiful sunshine (averaging 11 hours a day) and only sporadic rain, lasting from late May to early Sep. Autumn can be bright and warm, but storms do start to affect this region from Oct onwards and can be very windy and wet at times. Winters (Dec to Feb) are mild (13°c) and bright, with heavy showers, or longer periods of rain and wind. Nights can be cold during this time. Spring is warm and bright, with May being sunny and quite hot at times
