How about a trip to Poland

Poland Jun

SummaryA Brief Summary

From Gdansk in the north, to Krakow in the south and the cities of Wroclaw, Lodz and the capital Warsaw straddling the heart of the country, Poland is an eastern European country with much to offer.  Sadly, the majority of what people know Poland for is the severe struggles during the early part of the 20th century, including the horrors of WW2 and places such as Auschwitz.  However… it’s come rather a long way since and is now one of the most popular destinations in Europe for a long weekend, be it to pay homage to those who suffered at places such as Auschwitz, visit the cathedrals, churches and historic town of Wroclaw only an hours drive away, marvel at the beautiful medieval city of Krakow, enjoy the vibrant nightlife and big city atmosphere of Warsaw, or, if you’re after something more laid back, and perhaps in summer want the option to escape to a beach for the day, try Gdansk in the far north, which is a real treasure of the Baltic and often overlooked in favour of the aforementioned places above.

Aside from city breaks, Poland is a land of large flat expanses of farmland, dense forests and large national parks, home to some of Europe’s lesser known large animals such as bison which roam free in Bialowieza National Park, or the waterfalls of Karkonosze.

WeatherAbout the Weather

Poland has a climate very much in keeping with central and Eastern Europe, with warm, bright, showery summers and cold, overcast, snowy winters. Temperatures can drop below -20°c from Dec to Feb, but average just below 0°c by day. This increases to 14°c by Mar and 20°c by May, marking the stark increase in sunshine and warmth going into summer. This continues until early Sep, peaking in Jul at 25°c, although 35°c is seen several times a year. No months are particularly wet, or dry, but summers see the heaviest of the rain which is often thundery. Snow begins in late Nov and can be heavy until early Mar.
