How about a trip to Oman South Coast
A Brief Summary
The southern regions of Oman, essentially anywhere south of the Hajar mountains, are predominantly unsettled and very sparsely populated. So much so the long border between Saudi Arabia and Oman is… well, isn’t really. The countries have both collectively agreed that to define a border in the worlds largest stretch of sand dunes and completely uninhabitable terrain would be a little trivial, so they haven’t.
The exception to this lies on Oman’s very southern coast, around the town of Salalah. For 90% of the year a hot, dry and sunny place, but in Jul and Aug, it turns shades of green you wouldn’t think possible in the desert. Just the time Omani’s arrive here… and tourists leave. After all, who wants to depart the rain in the UK, to arrive in the fog of Salalah. If you fancy picking up a little gold, frankincense or myrrh however, (yes, they’re all real), they are all readily available here… Salalah and the surrounds aren’t blessed with endless sights, but are good for a few days history-buffing your way around, with museums, tombs, mosques and palaces top of the to-do lists. The hotels here are generally very nice and well catered for, but despite the long soft sand beaches, the seas here are strictly no-go areas, with severe ocean currents and choppy waters making swimming nothing short of a really bad idea!

About the Weather
Southern Oman, for the most part, has a hot, very dry, desert climate with temperatures averaging 28-32°c year-round by day and 18-26°c at night. Skies during the year are almost entirely clear and have hot, strong sunshine. The exception to this is the period from late Jun to early Sep, when southern Oman sees almost perpetual cloud cover and fog, brought about by the monsoon, despite the fact almost no rain falls. The area is coated in fog dense enough to turn the area verdant green for a while, before the heat and sun return in late Sep.
