How about a trip to Nicaragua
A Brief Summary
Nicaragua is a Central American country very few people visit and in some ways it’s easy to see why. You first have to fly over the Caribbean to get here. There are currently no direct flights from the UK, so you’re obliged to stop off somewhere en-route, often in the Southern US. The country has had, and to a degree retains, a reputation for drug cartels and criminal activity. All sounds pretty bleak on the face of it, so why bother. Well, it’s really rather beautiful situated between the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea and the countries of Honduras and Costa Rica, has a wonderful array and flora and fauna, is a country of towering peaks, volcanoes, dense jungles and lakes to the north and west, and rolling hills to the east with some beautiful beaches on both coastlines. Hugely historic and intimately linked, like much of central America to its previous Spanish colonisation, with architecture very much of the era, it’s reminiscent of much of Central America. If you’re after swanning about on jet skis for 2 weeks interspersed with time spent on sun loungers, or sipping mojitos at swim-up hotel pool bars, there are better places to be. If you’re adventurous, want an unusual passport stamp, love the idea of your walking boots having another strenuous outing in stunning scenery and don’t want to pay very much to eat fantastic local food… the efforts of getting here will justly reward you!

About the Weather
Hot and humid year-round. Dec – Apr is the considerably drier and far sunnier time of year across Nicaragua, with the period May – Nov wetter and more humid. Nicaragua can be hit by hurricanes, sometimes severely during this period, which because of the lack of protection from the ocean and limited infrastructure and flat terrain, can mean long-lasting and damaging flooding, with considerable fatalities and significant damage to infrastructure, including roads and communications
