How about a trip to Nepal
A Brief Summary
Nepal is mountain country. Not mountain the way that the Scottish see Ben Nevis, or even the way the French see Mont Blanc, they’re piffling little hills in Nepal that are merely obstacles to overcome to get the main events. We’re talking full on brutal Himalayas here, with the main trekking and walking terrain on the lush green foothills being higher than almost anything in Europe, and they’re just to get you warmed up. Of course, they’re all topped off with Mount Everest, the worlds loftiest peak and highest ascendable point of land. Now if you’re reading this, we’ll assume you’re not considering climbing Everest.. or any of the other monsters here, and more looking for a holiday that will see you hiking and trekking in some utterly breath taking scenery, but without the need for oxygen, sherpas or overnight tents in the possible paths of avalanches.
Starting your holiday off you will of course arrive into Kathmandu, Nepal’s largest and capital city. It is absolutely essential you stay in Kathmandu for a few days on your arrival for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it’s a lovely, busy, thriving city of 3 million people and there is little point travelling this far, to somewhere with so much culture and history, and not taking a look around. Secondly, you’ll want to acclimatise. The city may only be at 1,400m in elevation, but that is already higher than any point of land in the UK and far, far lower than many of the hiking trails you’ll likely be going on, so let your body adapt for a bit, take a breather (literally and metaphorically) and stock up supplies. If you can’t buy it in Kathmandu, it probably has no place being on your person during your trip.

About the Weather
Warm days and cool (sometimes cold) nights are seen during the dry and very sunny winter months, from Oct – Apr. The period May – Sep is much wetter, with high humidity and much more overcast skies, but with temperatures approaching 30°c by day and low 20°c’s at night. Temperatures reduce by approximately 1°c for every 1,000ft (300m) you ascend in elevation, so the higher mountain passes will be considerably cooler than the temperatures shown here for Kathmandu
