How about a trip to Namibia

Namibia Nov

SummaryA Brief Summary

Windhoek is Namibia’s capital, largest city and the international gateway to this extraordinary country for anyone arriving by plane, which will be 99% of you!  So it must have a huge amount to see and do then… well, no, not really.  While it is Namibia’s entry point, the vast majority of people spend a necessary night here before heading off on Safari, biking, walking, or otherwise generally travelling around this wonderful country.  So by all means have a wander round Windhoek when you arrive, but save yourself for the real delights.  Nature!
The deserts of Namibia (the Namib and Kalahari) are some of the oldest on earth and you’d better have your camera (and spare batteries) ready.  The desert interior of Namibia has shades of orange seen nowhere else on earth, sand dunes which would tower over small skyscrapers and more wildlife than really ought to exist in an area so devoid of rain.  Elephants, giraffe, bison, leopard, buffalo, rhino etc…. the list is long and very impressive.  Other than animal spotting on safari, if you prefer your nature even bigger, try heading south to Fish River Canyon, it’ll make you stop in awe even if you’ve seen the sensational Grand Canyon!  To the north is Etosha National Park, one of Southern Africa’s best… and that’s some claim given how this region of the world is littered with incredible National Parks!
So, why are you still reading…?  Seriously, get involved and get out there… those pictures won’t take themselves and those memories won’t make themselves!

WeatherAbout the Weather

Namibia’s capital Windhoek, has one of the sunniest climates of any capital city anywhere in the world.  Sunshine levels peak from June to August when clouds are rare and humidity levels often drop below 10%.  Temperatures during this time average just over 20°c by day, however nights can frequently drop below 0°c.  During the summer months from November to March, the weather warms up considerably with highs averaging 30°c, but temperatures of 40°c are not uncommon during heatwaves. Rainfall levels increase too, but these come in heavy, thundery showers with sunshine levels remaining high, often above 9 hours a day.
