A Brief Summary
Southern Madagascar isn’t the prettiest part of the island, in fact, many would say it’s quite bleak. A lot of that is in part to its near desert-like climate and is not only the sunniest place in Madagascar, but ranks among some of the sunnier places on earth. While this is tremendous for spending time on the beaches of Ifaty (which are genuinely well worth visiting), it’s less appealing for your journey to get to these beaches, which will be long and potentially patience-testing!
The roads in Madagascar are generally poor and when you’re on them for hours on end, “poor” soon becomes “irksome and painful!”… just something to bear in mind.
Away from the sunny beaches, there are a number of national parks here, some of the oldest reserves in the country and some wonderful flora and fauna to be seen.. just be prepared for the journeys to and from though!

About the Weather
The far south of Madagascar, particularly the southwest coast, is by far the sunniest region of the country, nicknamed the “city of the sun” with good reason. Every month sees at least 10 hours a day of sunshine, with temperatures ranging from 27°c in Jul to 32°c in Jan. Only May to Aug sees anything other than warm nights where temperatures can drop to around 15°c. Rain is only reliably seen from Dec to Feb and even then comes as heavy showers with lengthy sunny spells. Winds are moderate year-round, although stronger on the far south coast
