How about a trip to Madagascar Central Highlands
A Brief Summary
Madagascar’s central region is a moderately high altitude plateau of verdant fields, rolling hills, rice paddies and thin forests. While overall a sparsely populated region with limited infrastructure and transport, the nation’s capital lies to the east of the region, Antananarivo (Tana!). Madagascar is a poor country and one that has been given a rather fanciful reputation by wildlife documentaries and such like, and Tana is a mirror of the nation. Glass skyscrapers, plush office blocks, beautiful gardens and posh restaurants are few and far between, instead you have a city which is much more contemporary and had a wide variety of heritages in its people, from Chinese, to Indian, European and of course African, being only a few hundred km’s off the coast of Mozambique.
Former ornate palaces, lemur parks, other large zoological gardens and large markets will be your primary draw here. Entering Madagascar is nigh on impossible without coming very close to, or through, it’s nations capital, so why not spend a couple of days here getting a feel for the place before heading off to the sights and sounds of the rest of Madagascar
