How about a trip to Macedonia

Technically, North Macedonia, but there are few inside Macedonia who’ll thank you for calling it that, so let’s be safe and stick with just “Macedonia”. A former state of Yugoslavia and with significant ties to Greece, this is now a truly independent nation and has been for 30 years. It is a nation that took a while to get off the ground and aspects of this are evident away from the key cities, with rural life feeling very rural indeed and quite disconnected from the rest of society.. although this is by no means always a negative.
Geographically this is a rugged country, with a high proportion of the landmass hilly or mountainous, with river valleys, canyons and undulating terrain dominating. This has quickly made Macedonia a country which attracts those in need of an adrenaline rush, be it, hiking, biking, climbing, or riding.
For those with less of a desire to get the heart racing, and a preference for culture and history, this is a country with a surprising amount to offer given its size. Combining not only Greek and former Yugoslav cultures, but Turkish, Muslim and Christian aspects to boot. So your days could be spent crawling through old town bazaars, modern restaurants, or enjoying the architecture of ancient churches, forts and ruins.
Either way, this small Balkan nation packs quite a punch
