A Brief Summary
Prediction time… The number of tourists travelling to Laos at the moment is minimal, only a few thousand a year, but roll forward 10 years and there is a distinct possibility that will increase 10-fold or more. Laos is a real hidden gem! It’s hidden because, frankly, it wanted to be, it is a communist country who’s values and ways of life aren’t shared by many in the “west” and as is usually the case when politics don’t align, neither do travel arrangements!
But many of you will know what wonderful places Vietnam, or Cambodia, or Thailand are to travel to and within, and Laos offers just as many treasures as these, but they’re just far less easily accessible, or widely known. For the moment.
Fast becoming the new Southeast Asian choice for those on a budget, looking for a sense of adventure, with fabulous food, friendly locals, plenty of beautiful temples and monuments, stunning scenery and a very original stamp in their passport, Laos is well, well worth making the effort to get to!

A hot, tropical climate with year-round temperatures ranging from 28 in Dec to 34°c in Apr and very mild nights, rarely below 15°c in winter and never below 21°c from Jun to Sep. The south of the country is tropical with nights seldom below 20°c and days around 32°c. Further north the winters are a little cooler, but not by a great deal unless you’re in the mountains when nights can be noticeably chilly. Sunshine and light, occasional showers from Oct to Apr is the norm, with moderate humidity and light winds, with the months of Mar and Apr particularly hot, often reaching 38°c. May sees the dramatic onset of the Asian monsoon, bringing high humidity, heavy rain and overcast skies. Rains peak in Jul and Aug with torrential, thundery showers almost daily and only ease during Oct before the hot and sunny winter
