How about a trip to Kyrgyzstan
A Brief Summary
Firstly, Kyrgyzstan is pronounced “Ker-gis-tan” in case any of you were perplexed as to how on earth you say 8 consonants in a row! Secondly, it’s a landlocked country in central Asia, sandwiched between China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Thirdly, it really is rather beautiful. If you’re ideal view is wide-open, grassy fields stretching for miles, this is going to disappoint, but if you watch the Sound of Music and think the backdrop is stunning, then you’ll love this place. It really is the Switzerland of Asia. It also feels a little Mongolian despite not being an adjoining country.
That aside, it’s a country which has taken a while to come out of the shadow of being a former Soviet region, but is slowly becoming its own nation with political stability and its own identity.
The main draw here is the scenery and epic hiking, biking and horse riding opportunities. While finding a tour guide is probably the most difficult aspect of this, once you have and you’ve arrived, your next biggest struggle is going to be which view to take a picture of first!
