How about a trip to Japan Hokkaido
A Brief Summary
Hokkaido is very different to the rest of Japan. Not only is it the most northerly region and therefore has a far more European climate, but it is much less densely populated and rather than rugged, lush, forested mountains elsewhere, these are more like large rolling hills.
Hokkaido is famous for its winters which are some of the snowiest on earth and unsurprisingly, there are some fairly small, but exceptionally well catered-for ski resorts as a result, including night skiing! The pow(der) here is arguably the finest in the world and for any winter sports enthusiast, skiing / boarding in northern Japan is quite simply sensational!
Away from the slopes, Hokkaido’s main cities are Sapporo and Hakodate, with the former the largest on the island by far and worth a few days in its own right to see one of the least Japanese cities in Japan, but a really nice one nonetheless. Come in winter and the snow festival is a must, come in spring and the entire region is festooned with multi-coloured plants and flowers in spectacular arrangements in the fields all over the island, while summer is the time the Japanese come to Sapporo, to enjoy the food, fresh air, lush and beautiful gardens and relative cool.
So if you’re after somewhere exotic, that looks a little European, but with the unmistakable feel of Japan, then Hokkaido really should be on your list!

About the Weather
Vying for the title of the worlds snowiest large city with Canada’s Montreal, Sapporo, and Hokkaido in general, have exceptionally snowy winters, with falls of snow lasting days or weeks at a time and often reaching huge totals. Temperatures from Dec to Feb are cold (rarely above 0°c), with very cold nights and relatively overcast skies. Spring sees sunnier and warmer weather, although this only really warms up in May (averaging 19°c) which is the sunniest month of the year, as well as the driest. Summers are very warm and often hot, frequently above 30°c, but fairly overcast at times with high humidity and heavy, thundery showers common. Extreme heat here is very rare. Autumn months are warm to begin with but cool dramatically in Nov when the north west winds return and bring the continual snow falls of the winter.
