How about a trip to Indonesia North Sumatra
A Brief Summary
Formed from the provinces of Aceh and North Sumatra, this is one of Indonesia’s most active geological regions. From the devastating earthquake and tsunami in 2004, waaaay back in time to the cataclysmic eruption of Mount Toba, more than 70,000 years before. So that means you should avoid this area, right? Erm, no, not really.
Indonesia is a vast sprawling country taking up a huge spread of the earths surface and contains more than 17,000 islands. Each is ever-so-slightly different from the rest, and being the largest, Sumatra is the most varied. The food here is fabulous, the towns are chaotic, yet enchanting, national parks house elephants, tigers and orangutans and the lakes, rivers and mountains here are stunning to behold and take some serious trekking to explore.
So if you’re looking for somewhere where the roads are pristine smooth, and you can grab a mojito every 500-yards along a strip of powdery sand, then no, this isn’t the place for you. But if you have a sturdy pair of boots, a good camera and a have-a-go attitude, this really might suit you rather nicely.
