How about a trip to India Far Southwest
A Brief Summary
Geographically Kerala is a diverse state, lying at the very furthest south westerly reaches of the country, it occupies an enviable position. On the coast are mile after mile of glorious beaches, some of the best in India, while inland is a mix of hundreds of miles of meandering waterways and canals (think wide, tranquil, palm-fringed waterways, rather than shopping-trolley-strewn dingey swamps!). Further inland you have the Western Ghats, a long mountain range covering the full eastern flank of the state and best seen after the passing of the monsoon rains.
If beautiful scenery isn’t your thing (one question: why not?), then perhaps you’d rather explore the cities of Trivandrum (a much shorter name for the state capital than those you’ll see on maps!), or Kochi, both thriving and bustling cities with every form of retail therapy you could ask for, historic forts, national parks with large tiger and elephant populations or huge varieties of birdlife. You can readily visit one of many tea or spice plantations, or attend some of the numerous dance or art festivals that take place here throughout the year.
If you head a little further north, you’ll reach the stereotypically hippy resort of Goa and it’s famed beaches and very laid back, yoga-inspired atmosphere.
Karnataka, slightly further inland but with a long coastline, as a state name is not one familiar to too many people outside of India, however several of its largest cities and most popular attractions might be. Located in southwest India, on the shores of the Arabian Sea just south of Goa, Karnataka has its fair share of beaches and like most in India, they are wide and sandy with constant cooling sea breezes, while inland it is even grrrrrander, with the worlds largest population of tigers here.
Aside from the huge and majestic stripey cats, cities like Bengaluru (you’ll no doubt know this is as Bangalore) is a place of shopping and with a vibrant nightlife for those seeking a more urban way to spend your time, while Mysore has lavish temples and Mysore Palace, a grand former Maharaja home and well worth swooning over.
So be it catching some rays on the wonderful beaches, catching up on some culture or history, trekking through the wilds of the forests here or getting out and about in Bengaluru, Karnataka has something for everyone!
