How about a trip to Guatemala
A Brief Summary
Geographically, Guatemala can be broken down into 3 distinct regions: The central swathe of the country is heavily mountainous with a number of large and active volcanos, while the north bordering Mexico and Belize and the south on the Pacific coast are both largely flat. Strangely given this topography, the majority of the population is found in the more rugged, mountainous regions, perhaps due to the slightly cooler climate and highly fertile volcanic soils, whereas the flatter north and south are covered in dense rainforest with a number of rivers and tributaries making travel here difficult.
The one thing you’ll find in abundance throughout the north however, were you to explore the jungles, would be a large number of Mayan remains, some now just small remnants of formerly sizeable conurbations, with some extraordinarily impressive structures and pyramids.
Centrally you’ll find Guatemala’s capital, Guatemala City, a surprisingly large city of 3 million people and one that is bustling with a distinctly Spanish feel, unsurprisingly given the country’s long and historic ties to Spain.
From a fauna perspective, this tropical country doesn’t disappoint, with numerous bird and animal species such as monkeys, crocodile, tapirs, jaguars and ocelots all found here, although these are increasingly difficult to locate

About the Weather
Hot and humid year-round with temperatures close to or above 30°c every day and seldom dropping below 20°c by night, except in the higher altitude central region, where temperatures are some 4-6°c lower. The climate is very dry and sunny from Dec – Mar with rain unusual at this time of year and a gradual increase in rainfall and reduction in sunshine through Apr and May. Jun – Oct is very wet and very humid, with the distinct possibility of hurricanes and local flooding likely, with landslides and swollen rivers probable during periods of torrential rain. Nov and Dec are a little less prone to hurricane activity, but still remain wet and relatively overcast.
