How about a trip to Germany South

Germany South Jan

SummaryA Brief Summary

Southern Germany is probably the most distinct of all the German regions, with very well known Bavaria occupying a large portion of this region, alongside its far less recognisable Baden-Wurttemberg (might have something to do with the name!)
The former of these is Germany’s largest region, home to the northern reaches of the European Alps, Oktoberfest, chocolate-box villages and towns, timber-framed buildings and its regional capital, Munich.
Munich has much going for it, it is one of Germany’s more visually appealing cities (according to some), it is a city with a very high liveability rating, central to Germany’s cultural, culinary, technology and tourism sectors and one with a great deal of history to boot!
Baden-Wurttemberg on the other hand is home to many-a-vineyard producing the majority of Germany’s increasingly positive wine industry, the Black Forest and its namesake cakes and chocolate-box buildings, a number of large castles, the very northern touches of the Alps and its main city, Stuttgart. Stuttgart is renowned for its technology and manufacturing sector, most prominently in the automotive sector, with behemoths of Porsche and Mercedes-Benz calling this city “heimat”

WeatherAbout the Weather

The southernmost regions of Germany see the country’s most reliably warm weather during the period May to Sep, when temperatures range from 20 to 25°c by day. This is also the sunniest time of year with between 7 and 8 hours of sunshine a day. Very hot weather seldom reaches this region of Germany due to the blocking influence of the Alps on the really hot weather coming up from the south, but highs above 30°c are common in summer. Summer is also the wettest time of year here with frequent heavy and thundery showers. Autumns are bright and mild to begin with, but by Nov are cool and cloudy. Winters are some of the coolest in Germany here despite being so far south, resulting from the influence of the Alps. Heavy snows at low altitude are uncommon, but the mountains to the far south see heavy snowfall from late Nov to mid-Mar and temperatures can drop below -15°c.
