How about a trip to Germany East

Germany East Jan

SummaryA Brief Summary

Of all the regions of Germany, the east has by far the most intriguing and chequered history as far as the “west” is concerned. With its modern day capital, Berlin, centred in the east of Germany, this now highly modern city of 4 million people attracting tourists in their thousands, couldn’t have been more different not so long ago. Divided like few other places on earth, the west of the city with its allies of Europe and the US thriving and booming, while its eastern half languished far, far behind under the old iron curtain. While unified now, these divides are still visually very evident and make for a really intriguing city break here.
Away from Berlin and its vast array of attractions and lures, the remainder of eastern Germany unsurprisingly still feels a little more like the old eastern Europe to travel round and explore, with the architecture still very much of the time and location and with infrastructure just lagging a little behind the remainder of the country. It is by no means a reason not to visit, in fact if you’re touring through this fascinating country, even more reason to discover this part of the world as a comparison to the rest

WeatherAbout the Weather

Eastern Germany’s winters are typified by cold, cloudy weather with frequent light snow showers and frosty nights. Temperatures below 0°c are common by day and night, with -15°c seen during cold weather and bitter easterly winds, most likely in February. Spring is slow to warm up, but by late April the weather is noticeably sunnier, if only averaging 15°c. Summers are warm, occasionally hot and relatively sunny, with 7-8 hours sunshine a day from May to August. September sees bright weather before October cools considerably before the onset of winter in November. Rainfall is very evenly spread throughout the year and intense and heavy rainfalls are relatively unusual for a region that sees rain on average every other day throughout the year.
