How about a trip to French Polynesia
A Brief Summary
If there were ever 2 names that conjured up images of crystal clear tranquil blue waters, lush green mountainous backdrops, tropical fish, powder white sand and beautiful timber / thatch villas out of the water… it would be “Tahiti” and “Bora Bora”. While 2 different islands, both of these and many others (over 100) form part of the widely dispersed islands and atolls of French Polynesia in the central south Pacific.
The islands themselves are mostly small is surface area, but almost all of them, regardless of size, are mountainous or hilly. Almost entirely throughout the islands the coastal regions are populated while the inland regions are completely uninhabited given the steepness of the heavily forested and jungle terrain. As the name suggests, French Polynesia is technically an overseas collectivity of France, but with a semi-autonomous governance.
Getting to FP from anywhere in Europe is a real mission and cannot be done in under 24 hours, however, the minute you set foot on the soft white sands, smell the tropical air and gaze up at the deep blue skies from your rather expensive hotel balcony… it’ll all be worth it!
