How about a trip to Colombia Central Highlands
A Brief Summary
Central Colombia is a region of the world still sadly blighted by images of the rampant drugs trade which dominated many news articles and broadcasts in the 80’s and 90’s. While it may have had its fair share of problems, it is a beautiful part of the world and one which in this day and age is well worth exploring. It is rugged and challenging highland terrain that poses considerable travel difficulties in bad weather, but with green mountains in every direction, waterfalls, rivers, valleys and grasslands, every corner you turn will need photographing. it is also exceptionally biodiverse with a huge variety of bird and animal life. At its heart lies Bogota, a high altitude capital city with a long and rich history, rife with struggles, uprisings, resistance and latterly increasing prosperity and freedom.
Location
About the Weather
Bogota’s position 2,600m up in the Andes gives the city its very overcast, year-round mild but wet climate. At such high elevation, despite its location just north of the equator, temperatures rarely make it into the mid 20’s, let alone any higher, with 30°c never having been recorded. While sunshine levels are low, averaging just 3.5 hours a day throughout the year, due to the elevation of the city, UV levels are exceptionally high, and the UV values of 12 shown are sea-level equivalents, so could realistically be considered closer to 20! Rainfall is seen throughout the year with only June to August seeing lighter, patchier rain, although this doesn’t bring sunnier skies as they remain overcast with sunshine usually confined to the morning. Nights are almost always cool, hovering around 10°c all year. Humidity levels stay constant between 75 and 80%.
