This is the heartland of China and historically it’s rural and farming centre. Today, this is a huge, thriving network of large cities, situated on vast rivers generating huge incomes for China and elevating its status to arguably the most powerful nation on earth. The provinces here are home to wonders like the Giant Panda, extraordinary ravines and deep gorges, large waterfalls, extensive cave networks and the worlds largest dam, the 3-gorges. For the less geographically-minded, this is an area rich in history and culture, with diverse populations, cuisines and languages, terrific mixtures of architecture from traditional pagodas and temples highlighting the wealth and importance of past dynasties to new high-rise skyscrapers and is fast becoming the growth region of China.
