How about a trip to Chile North

The north coast of Chile couldn’t be much more different to the far south. While the south is an unforgiving place due to the extreme cold and rain, the north is similarly unforgiving, but due to the complete absence of both those elements. Rain, for the most part, just doesn’t fall here and there are places in northern Chile that reliably go years or decades without rain. The coast is a rugged, rocky environment that is so utterly dry even bacteria struggle to survive here, so north of Antofagasta, the name also given the mining company giant, sunshine and drought prevail and accessing water becomes the only priority for the residents of the towns and villages here. The only notable exception to this is the Flamencos National Reserve, a large area unsurprisingly populated with huge flamboyances of flamingos (yes that’s the collective term for a flamingo.. who knew!) and provides some exceptional walking and hiking
