How about a trip to Canada Quebec

Canada Quebec Jan

SummaryA Brief Summary

Quebec is massive, the size of Mongolia, or Iran, and while the vast majority of the province is virtually uninhabited due to the proliferation of lakes and rivers and bitter winter climates, the very far south sees 3 very distinct and very different cities, all of which straddle the mighty St Lawrence river. Ottawa, the nations capital, is a small(ish) city and is one renowned for its educational establishment and its arty culture (not dissimilar to Boston in the US). Montreal is more American in feel, despite its official language being French, and is often cited as the commercial, finance and technological capital of Canada, but has a significant music and arts scene. Quebec City is very French in look, culture and feel, and French is by the far the majority language spoken here. The areas surrounding QC are highly arable and intensively farmed during the summer months. All 3 cities are close enough to visit in a single trip and each bring their own rewards for doing so and let’s be honest, the 3.3m residents in these cities wouldn’t stay in these harsh climates if they didn’t love living here!

WeatherAbout the Weather

In close competition with Japan city Hokkaido, this region of Canada vies for the title of snowiest large conurbation on earth. Heavy snow is common during the cold winters here, often accompanied by strong, gale force winds, bringing severe blizzards and ice storms. Winters are quite bright however and occasional incursions of warm air bring temporary relief from the bitter cold. Snow lies on the ground here from Nov to Mar, often in large accumulations. Spring is bright or sunny, but with days of rain replacing the winter snow. Temperatures warm up rapidly towards late Apr and May, reaching 20°c reliably by the end of spring, but with hot days above 30°c not uncommon. Summers are sunny and very warm with heatwaves bringing hot weather several times a season. Rain comes in heavy often thundery showers with high, sometimes very high humidity. Autumn starts in Sep with warm and bright weather and showers, but by late Oct has been replaced by much cooler, cloudier and snowier conditions before true winter sets in in Nov.
