How about a trip to Canada Labrador Coast

Canada Labrador Coast Jan

SummaryA Brief Summary

Officially “Newfoundland and Labrador” (Newfoundland being the large easterly island and Labrador the large mainland region), but often shortened to Newfoundland, this is the most north-easterly of Canada’s provinces and its position against the Labrador sea that separates it from Greenland should give some idea as to the geography of this province. It is from this region that the iceberg which sank the Titanic almost certainly originated and the very rugged coastline harbouring these icebergs in winter is a very difficult landscape to traverse or travel along, by sea or road. Inland is equally rugged with dense forests and a huge number of rivers and large lakes, many of which freeze in the bitter winters. The majority of the income for the province is generated through oil production here. There are not “cities” to speak of, only moderate sized conurbations of people and the lifestyle is very rural, but a great one for exploring the outdoors with little in the way of creature comforts. Ray Mears would love this place!

WeatherAbout the Weather

Canada’s eastern-most coast sees a climate not dissimilar (but more extreme) to north western Europe, dominated by the influence of the Atlantic. Winters are cold, sometimes very cold, with appreciable snow, falling on most days from Dec to Feb and limited sunshine. Spring is highly changeable and can be warm and bright in May particularly, but is often cool, wet and overcast. Summers are short, warm and bright, but seldom very sunny with only Jul and Aug seeing reliably blue skies, it is also the only time of year where night time temperatures are not expected to fall to, or below 0°c. Autumns are cool and increasingly overcast with plentiful rain and temperatures above 22°c quite unusual after mid Sep. All seasons see windy weather and reliable, often quite heavy precipitation. Storms in late Autumn and winter can be severe with blizzards common
