How about a trip to Latvia

Latvia Jul

SummaryA Brief Summary

The Baltic Sea is not the warmest body of water in the world… in fact, it’s one of the coldest, but, on a really nice warm day in summer, if you’re looking for a country that can offer you huge expanses of clean sand and aren’t too fussed about a chilly wave or two, Latvia might be worth a thought. Inland, away from the long sandy beaches, you’ll find a sparsely populated country bearing almost no resemblance to the Russian state it formerly was. Now very much a part of the EU, this heavily forested, very flat country with a thousand lakes feels very reminiscent of Scandinavia.. and that is no bad thing!
The people here are friendly and will welcome you with open arms, more than happy to show off their country and cities to you. Chief of which is Riga, it’s capital.
This is not a city of glass-fronted high-rise behemoths shouting to the world how rich its inhabitants are, it’s a low-rise, low-key place with an extensive history, great little old town, some exquisite architecture, and a lovely place to just stroll around. In parts it feels a little like Vienna, or even a mini St Petersburg, but with its very own unique charm

WeatherAbout the Weather

A typically humid continental climate across Latvia has winters with almost daily falls of light snow and temperatures almost always below 0°c and warm, but showery summers with long days and plenty of sunshine. Summer days average 21°c but can reach 30°c from Jun to Aug, but with quite cool nights. This is also the wettest time of year with heavy showers between the sunny spells. Autumn sees the rains reduce by Nov, along with a marked drop in temperature, by 5-6°c each month until Dec. Sunshine also drops by 50% from Aug to Sep and again to Oct. -20°c should be expected a few times each month from Dec to Feb
