How about a trip to Turkey Aegean Coast
A Brief Summary
Aegean Turkey is chiefly renowned for one thing these days: Beach holidays. With good reason too. This craggy coastline, stretching down from Istanbul in the north, to Marmaris in the far South West of the country, is dotted with hundreds, if not thousands of coves, small beaches, inlets and islands, as well as a large number of moderately-sized towns and villages that have grown here as a result. The largest of these is Izmir, a fully fledged city in its own right and one with an extensive trading history and an even longer, often acrimonious one, with neighbours Greece. Izmir is nothing different fundamentally to cities like Bodrum, Kusadasi, or Marmaris, all have bazaars, old towns, large central squares hosting a range of restaurants and bars and extensive waterfronts, the only difference is that Izmir’s are all just a little larger!
The entire region is back-dropped by mountains as you head inland and the pale-blue Aegean Sea in the other direction. The mountains play host to a large number of towns, all of which feel very different to the aforementioned coastal ones, being extensively untouched by tourism, and more akin to “real” Turkey. The exceptions being towns like Denizili which is en-route to tourism traps such as Pamukkale, a world-renowned site of ice-white travertines and hundreds of azure bathing pools.. a beautiful sight and well worth visiting.. but it can get exceptionally busy in the height of summer.
So if you’re after a busy, bustling resort-type location with plenty to do, this region of Turkey is very well catered for, for a quieter time, you could simply just head to a smaller resort with more rustic charm and an unspoilt flavour such as Alacati or Dikili
