How about a trip to Spain North
A Brief Summary
If you fancy a trip to Spain, but don’t want the heat of the south, or the crowds of Madrid or Barcelona, then northern Spain is a great option. Cities like Bilbao, San Sebastian and Zaragoza are large enough to have plenty to see and do, but small enough to see and do most of what you’d like to in a few days. Bilbao is a decent-sized city and the home of the Basque country, a region similar in it’s desire for autonomy from the rest of Spain as Catalunya is just slightly to the east. The best known attraction here is the outlandishly styled Guggenheim Museum and the history and culture of the city is its main draw, along with the temperate climate akin to the south of the UK, albeit slightly warmer and sunnier. Zaragoza is an old city, but a surprisingly large one, the 5th largest in Spain. Prices here are always lower than the rest of Spain’s main cities as a result of it being largely overlooked by tourists, but it’s a surprisingly enjoyable and relaxed place to spend a day or so. San Sebastian could perhaps be considered a very small Rio de Janeiro, with its arc-shaped bay, hilly backdrop and gorgeous sands; an absolute must for a warm, sunny day!
The region’s other main draw is the fruity Rioja wine, so once you’ve seen the aforementioned cities, head into the fields and vineyards and sample some of this region’s biggest export!

About the Weather
Northern Spain’s climate is a humid, warm one with rain in all months and much less sunny than elsewhere in the country. Winters here (Nov to Feb) are cloudy but mild, with heavy rain showers common and temperatures of 13-16°c by day, but well below 10°c at night. Snow can fall here, sometimes heavily during winter storms and windy weather in winter months is common. Spring into Summer is warm and sometimes hot, but without the high sunshine levels you’d expect of Spain, peaking in Jun, Jul and Aug at only 6 hours a day, although temperatures rise to 26°c by day, and often well above 30°c. Summers are the driest time of year with only sporadic rains. Autumn is largely warm, quite overcast and increasingly wet towards winter
