How about a trip to Kenya Central Highlands
A Brief Summary
It snows on the equator! Well, at 4,000m atop Mount Kenya it does anyway! Central / southern Kenya is a region of contrast. From the forested foothills surrounding the very rugged Mount Kenya, to the far south of the country and the vast national parks and reserves, home to huge herds of elephant, lions, zebra, giraffe and so on.. the most famous reserve / park, one of the most iconic on earth, is the Masai Mara. Home to a tribal people who’ve lived here for a ridiculously long time, as well as huge numbers of incredible animals, you really cannot come to Kenya and not spend a few days in an open-top 4×4 witnessing these majestic beasts in their natural habitat. It would be like going to Paris and deciding the Eiffel Tower wasn’t really your thing!
In the middle of all this, is Nairobi, the country’s capital and by far it’s largest city. It is a complex city and one with poor traffic and some very poor areas, however, look past this and it is a fascinating blend of colonialism and modern-era east Africa, all wrapped up in a naturally-gifted region of the world!

About the Weather
Nairobi and the central highland region of Kenya has an unusual climate as it has 2 noticeable wet seasons. The first, in April and May is the wetter of the 2, and sees 40% of the city’s annual rainfall. Sunshine levels during this time average 6-7 hours a day. The sunshine levels continue to drop through till August, when the weather is cooler and cloudier, but often dry. The second, shorter rainy season lasts for about 6 weeks around the month of November. Temperatures reach between 24 and 27°c from December to March, during the sunniest months of the year. The sunshine is exceptionally strong in Nairobi due to the city’s location on the equator and being at altitude.
