How about a trip to India Far Southeast
A Brief Summary
Occupying the eastern half of the southern tip of India, is Tamil Nadu, a large, tropical state overlooking the southern reaches of the Bay of Bengal and the Laccadive Sea, with Sri Lanka only stones throw away. If beaches, temples, busy cities, sea forts, many large national parks with tigers and elephants and a wealth of history are your thing, then Tamil Nadu will readily tick those boxes for you.
Chennai is the main port of entry into Tamil Nadu and one of India’s largest and most important cities, with a truly global link to the rest of the world through finance, IT and other business avenues, it therefore provides everything you could ever want from an Indian city, including fabulous beaches to watch the sunrise from, airconditioned transport network and fabulous food.
Physically TN is a state of flat lowland and coastal areas and verdant rolling hills. The far west takes you to the Western Ghat Mountains.
Andhra Pradesh, just north of TN makes up the other portion of south eastern India and has the longest coastline of any of India’s states, at nearly 1,000km along the Bay of Bengal. Unsurprisingly there are a huge number of glorious beaches here, but only a small fraction of these have meaningful facilities and infrastructure suitable for a proper “day at the beach”.
Away from the golden sands, AP has a huge number of temples and forts, given, like most Indian States its significant religious following. It is also home to a number of large waterfalls, large rivers and highland forest areas for when the heat of the lowland becomes too much.
Travelling around AP isn’t as straight forward as some of the more developed States, but surely that just makes for a greater adventure and a sense of achievement?
