About the Weather
Uruguay has a humid climate year-round, with hot, sunny summers and mild, bright winters. Temperatures are very similar to those seen in other large southern hemisphere cities, with June to August averaging 17°c and December to February just under 30°c. The city’s wettest months (October to April) are also its sunniest. Rainfall during this time comes in very heavy, thundery downpours once every 2-3 days, often with hail and lightning. Sunshine levels during this time range from 7 to 9 hours a day, peaking in January and nights are warm, averaging 17°c. May to October sees fewer thundery showers and more general rainfall, with skies more overcast. Cold weather can affect the city from the south and brings frosts and occasional snow, although these are often very light and melt within an hour or two.
