How about a trip to United States North East
A Brief Summary
In the far Northeast corner of the US you’ll find a selection of States whose place in the country’s past, present and future is incalculable. They’re also places you’ve probably longed to visit, or if not, really ought to! 2 Cities in particular dominate this area’s tourist trade and with justifiability. New York and Boston. There is very little to be said for promoting the former, a vast sprawling, heaving city which has everything and more you could ever need or want from any city break, or to live in. Boston is a little different, often overlooked by people clammering to reach the Big Apple, but this would be a mistake. Boston has far more to see and enjoy than just the glut of educational establishments and law firms which have made this city famous in recent decades. While it doesn’t have anywhere near the panache or throbbing heart NY does, it also doesn’t have the insane crowds, constant noise and sometimes overwhelming summer heat either. Boston is a city of tradition and history and one with oodles of green spaces, lovely harbour strolls, superb food and a laid back vibe.
Aside from the 2 big guns in the NE of the US, what else is there to see and do. Well, for superb get-away-from-it-all walking and hiking trails, Maine is hard to beat, the coastline here is beautiful if a little craggy, but the seafood as a result of the proximity to the Atlantic is some of the best in the world! New Hampshire and Vermont vie for the title of prettiest State in New England, both with beautiful mountains, insane autumn colours, ski resorts in the winter and cool hiking, biking, kayaking and a number of other outdoorsy activities in summer.
Massachusetts’s key attractions are predominantly on the coast, from Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod, to slightly bizarre Salem and quirky Nantucket. Inland, you’ll find history and culture, dozens of little towns with great food and drink to explore as you drive westwards towards the Berkshires and the hills and waterfalls.
Connecticut (don’t pronounce the middle “c”!) is a curious state and one that the majority of people overlook, chiefly because of the glut of other places in this region to visit. While not the leading attractions in the region, the beaches here are better than you might expect, the rural heartland is a genuinely lovely and peaceful, place to be with numerous iconically attractive towns dotted throughout, while the towns of New Haven and Hartford are great for a more upbeat tempo with high quality restaurants and great bars.
Internally, the state of New York offers so much more than you might expect, from the breath taking Niagara, the winery and finery of the Finger Lakes, vast expanses of untamed wilderness and surprisingly enjoyable and diverse cities like Buffalo, Syracuse and Rochester, each greener, brighter and more culturally varied than you might imagine.
Finally, we have Pennsylvania, a large state and one with a lengthy and rich history and a really diverse geography, from wide open farmlands, to white water rapids, the short but beautiful coastline on Lake Erie and large expanses of surprisingly dense forest. The cities of Pittsburgh and Philly are ones many people have avoided in recent years for fear of seeing industrialised and soulless concrete jungles, and while that is true in parts of Pittsburgh, they are both worthy of a visit to get to know a little bit more of the birthplace of the US and to get to meet some of the friendliest people in the US, something Pittsburgh is becoming increasingly renowned for… as well as cheap beer and great “grub”!

About the Weather
New York is another US city and state where extreme weather can be seen in any month of the year and is typical of the climate in the northeast corner of the US. While winters are traditionally cold with light snow and fairly high levels of sunshine, every year, one or two significant winter storms will move across the region. These storms can dump paralysing levels of snow and bring windchills well below -10°c. They can also occur during March or April with equally significant falls of snow, harnessing the frigid air still in place over central and eastern Canada. Spring often brings warm and sunny weather, but increased rainfall totals, with all months seeing heavy showers on a regular basis, but with temperatures over 20°c by May. June to September is very warm to hot and the sunniest time of year here, with nearly 9 hours of sunshine a day in all 4 months. The heavy showers theme continues from spring into summer. Summer can also see very hot and humid heatwaves, with temperatures around 40°c for several days or a week at a time. Autumn starts warm and sunny in September, but cools quickly and by late November light snow is probable and skies are much more overcast, but still brighter than anywhere in northwest Europe during the same months. Very infrequently, the remnants of tropical storms pass over the region dropping huge rainfall totals, these are most likely in Aug, Sep or Oct
