How about a trip to Turkey North Coast
A Brief Summary
Northern Turkey is nothing like elsewhere in Turkey. For starters, it’s green here, very green. As a result, forests and dense woodland are commonplace, a sight rarely seen elsewhere in this hot and sunny country. Secondly, the coastline is rugged, with steep cliffs, mountains, numerous river valleys, and often a sense you’ve stepped back in time a few hundred years, with dirt tracks more common than paved roads in many places.
Getting about here isn’t as straight forward as most of Europe, but this does make for a greater sense of adventure. The furthest west we’d recommend you go is the town of Amasra, a small, but delightful little town with a lovely beach and through-and-through charm. From here, head east, through Sinop and Samsun, to Trabzon. Each a little different, but all with a relatively laid back and relaxed sense of calm, certainly in comparison to the heaving resorts of the Med and Aegean.
This is the sort of region where hiring your own car makes a great deal of sense… and a satnav! It’ll give you the freedom to explore this region without being tied to local transport which is often frustratingly slow and stops off at all sorts of places you’d rather it just went right on past! This is also a great region to start the exploration of central and eastern Turkey, the latter of which is a region which is notoriously tricky to get reliable transport in, but historically and culturally well worth a visit.

About the Weather
Northern coastal Turkey has a largely humid climate, with mild winters and very warm-to-hot summers. Average temperatures of 12°c from Dec to Feb, with overcast skies and heavy showers typify winters here. Nights are cool but can be cold and humidity is high due to the influence of the Black Sea. Spring is bright and mild, with slightly fewer and lighter showers than winter, although May is quite sunny and warm. Hot weather can occur from late Mar onwards with temperatures 10-15°c above the seasonal average of 16°c. Summer average 27°c, but can be well above 30°c and while not as sunny or dry and elsewhere in Turkey, it is largely clear and with heavy showers less frequent than at other times of the year. Autumn is warm and bright, but can be wet with heavy showers
