How about a trip to Pakistan North
A Brief Summary
The far north of Pakistan is a region with a very mixed blessing. On the one hand you have some of the most astonishing scenery anywhere on earth, most notably in the Karakorum Mountains, but also some of the most troubled relationships on earth, notably the international border with India, to be found somewhere in Kashmir, but exactly where will depend who you ask. And when!
Concentrating on the positive though… you’ll enter northern Pakistan through Islamabad, a large, and largely very well developed city in contrast to many within Pakistan. It is clean, orderly and in recent years has extensively modernised to cater to a wider, more international visitor, with international restaurants, bars and nightlife increasing in number rapidly. Religious or not Faisal Mosque is well worth a visit too (you’d be hard pushed to miss it in fact!)
The other large city of northern Pakistan is that of Lahore. Distinctly opposite from Islamabad, in that it is rather chaotic, bustling, busy and altogether has a rather “spur of the moment” feel about it, in comparison to Islamabad’s much more measured atmosphere. Still, with a little planning it’s certainly worth visiting. As is the city of Multan, which you’ll come across if you’re venturing by road to the south of Pakistan, a historic town with old forts, tombs and a much more traditional vibe to it.
Then, as alluded to before, in the very far north you have the mighty western edge of the Himalayas. Hiking here is as good as anywhere in the world, and with cycle tours now becoming popular too with tour groups increasingly discovering this astonishing corner of the world with most of the roads here exceptionally well paved, making for silky smooth, if very taxing riding.

About the Weather
A predominantly sunny climate with warm winters and hot, or very hot summers, punctuated with a short, but very wet summer period. Jul and Aug in northern Pakistan see very heavy monsoon rains and thunderstorms, bringing relief after the very hot months of May and Jun, when temperatures often exceed 40°c under clear skies. Sep is still wet, but less so than Jul and Aug, while Oct to May sees much less rainfall, although precipitation does increase in Feb and Mar, often in the form of very heavy snowfall in the mountains and heavy rain lower down. Winter temperatures average 19°c from Dec to Feb, rising quickly by Apr when averages exceed 30°c.
