How about a trip to Egypt North Coast
A Brief Summary
The northern inland region of Egypt is dominated by 3 things: The nations capital, Cairo, the vast River Nile and the only remaining wonder of the 7 original wonders of the ancient world, the pyramids at Giza. Cairo is not a city you visit if you want a chilled out, relaxed and easy-going vacation, it is a huge, bustling, busy capital, thronging with people and traffic from dawn till dusk and beyond. This doesn’t mean it’s not well worth a visit though as part of a wider trip to Egypt and the middle east, with, like the rest of Egypt, a long and detailed history, ell-preserved ancient settlements, old ruins and if you like a minaret.. you really do need a visit here! Increasingly close to Cairo (which is expanding rapidly), are the astonishing pyramids at Giza. Little needs to be written about these and while the pictures make them look impressive, they simply don’t do the scale of these huge and complex structures justice. If you do want a bit of peace and quiet, you will need to remove yourself from Cairo and Giza though, and either head out into the desert on an excursion, or take one of the many trips up (or down) the Nile
Location
About the Weather
Despite being located less than 100km from the Mediterranean, Cairo’s climate is noticeably drier, hotter and sunnier than places such as Alexandria due to the influence of the Sahara to the south and southwest. Rainfall is scarce and comes only in showers from November to March, the remainder of the year is almost completely dry. The far north of the country does see heavier showers during the Nov to Feb period, but with bright skies throughout. Apart from December and January which see reasonable amounts of cloud, the north of Egypt is sunny year-round, particularly June to September, with almost unbroken sunshine. Despite the hottest months of the year being June to August, averaging above 34°c, the most likely month for significant heatwaves to affect the city is May, when temperatures often exceed 40°c for several days. Winter months are warm by day and cool at night.
