How about a trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina Jan

SummaryA Brief Summary

A former republic of Yugoslavia, this southeast European country has a really medieval feel to it, with historic villages dotted around the country, in and amongst the craggy peaks and river valleys.  Strip away the cars and telephone wires and you can easily imagine how it must have felt to live here several hundred years ago, as architecturally, little has changed outside the large towns and cities. Lakes, rivers, mountains and valleys occupy the vast majority of this country, which does have a coastline, albeit, one of the worlds shortest, at barely 15km long and occupying an exceptionally small fraction of the country’s international border length of over 1,500km.  B&H is not a country big on the tourism radar yet, despite it’s clear and obvious attractions similar to those found in much more frequented places such as Hungary, the Czech Republic and even Albania to the south.  Now though, you’ll at least have bragging rights to have been some of the earlier tourists to large swathes of this beautiful and welcoming country before the masses soon cotton on to what they’ve been missing!
